ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Peyton Manning has been cleared to return to football. Dr. Robert Watkins, who performed the surgery, said that Manning’s neck had progressed enough that he could have played this Sunday – assuming the Colts had made the Super Bowl. And won more than 2 games. Anyway.
According to one source familiar with Manning’s medical review, “It’s not a safety issue; it’s a performance issue.” This source added that Manning is “making progress.”
Now we begin the great Manning Lottery of 2012. The Jets, Cardinals, Dolphins and Redskins have all been mentioned previously. I’m sure plenty of other teams will be “in the running” between now and the time Manning and the Colts make up.
