The Clippers worst fears were realized today: Chauncey Billups tore his left Achilles’ Tendon during Monday’s game against the Magic and is out for the season. Billups, who had been the Clippers starting shooting guard during their rise to respectability, is expected to miss eight months.
Now the pressure is on Mo Williams, who has been having a very good season of his own. L.A.’s bench was already thin so you have to think they’re going to make a bigger push for J.R. Smith once he’s allowed to leave China. The Knicks and Spurs are also interested in the swingman’s services.
Billups had been averaging 15 points and 4 assists as the Clippers started the season 15-7. The Clippers are currently 2.5 games ahead of the Lakers in the Pacific and currently the No. 2 seed in the West.
