Danny O'Brien Officially Transferring From Maryland

O’Brien, as we mentioned before, is the major departure. He was a freshman All-American in 2010, but struggled mightily under Gary Crowton’s offense and lost his starting job last season. Graduating this season, he could be eligible to play immediately and have two years of eligibility left. It’s not clear yet what restrictions Edsall will place on O’Brien’s future destination, though some suspect the obvious choice Vanderbilt, coached by his former offensive coordinator and recruiter James Franklin, could be ruled out. Speculation also has linked him with Pitt and, presumably, some Big Ten schools might have interest.

Edsall opted to see the players off Charlie Weis style. He threw in barbs at Danny O’Brien for “not being committed,” offensive linemen Max Garcia for being “homesick” and linebacker Mario Rowson for falsely thinking he was a defensive back. If you’re going to “wish (player X) well in the future,” just wish them well.
