Here’s classic video of the CBS pre-game show the week after the “Bounty Bowl” game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. Lots of priceless quotes here from a time when the NFL was gentler and kinder.

Jimmy Johnson: “What concerns me more than anything else is when you take away from the integrity of the game. Having bounties on opposing players is not the way it’s supposed to be done.” And later, “I would have said something to Buddy but he wouldn’t stand on the field long enough. He put his big fat rear end into the dressing room.”

Bears coach Mike Ditka: “That [a bounty on Ditka] would seem much to constructive for him [Buddy Ryan] to think of anything like that. But as far as a bounty on me, they don’t have anyone tough enough to hurt me on their football team, and certainly they don’t have a coach tough enough to hurt me.”

Also, the point where former Eagles cornerback Irv Cross reveals what the Eagles do is not a bounty system, but involves paying out for big plays, and then Will McDonough tells him that is a violation (“tough luck, Philly”) is pretty awesome as well, as Cross turns away realizing he probably just screwed his former team.
