Yu Darvish on Will Venable's Monster Double: "The wind helped that one."

“The wind helped that one. I don’t think he really squared it up.”

Awesome. I’m liking the bravado. Does Darvish have a little Pedro Martinez in him? For our sake, let’s hope he does.

Venable initially didn’t have too much to say to reporters, simply stating “maybe his perception of reality [in the big leagues] isn’t right yet. But otherwise, I’ve got no comment.”

Venable was later interviewed by a radio station and spoke on the issue a little further:

“The wind saved it being a home run. I also heard he said he didn’t think I squared up that ball. I don’t know, maybe something was lost in the translation. But I would like to hear a little more humility out of the guy. To each his own, I guess. He’s a confident guy. And, of course, I didn’t square up the ball because he’s Yu Darvish.”

No doubt this will get around the league fast and everyone will be gunning to shut the rookie up. That is, of course, unless Yu sheepishly backtracks from his words later today.
