Well it sure didn’t take very long for Ozzie Guillen to be Ozzie Guillen, and for that, we’re all better for it. The fiery manager was ejected from today’s Grapefruit League game against Boston after telling the first base ump, presumably in a vociferous manner, that the call in question was not under his jurisdiction because it apparently never got past the bag.
As Ozzie was headed for the showers, the occasionally humorous Bobby Valentine gave him a thoughtful wave. Unfortunately — and it really pains me to say this — he did not see Valentine’s touching gesture, but his response upon learning of it was outstanding:
“I don’t see it. I would have told him to go and [expletive] himself, too,” said Guillen. “That’s the way Ozzie Guillen is.”
Somewhere in the Bronx, a thunderous standing ovation begins to take its course. Perhaps a fresh scene with a whole set of new umpires to joust with will offer an even more entertaining version of Ozzie Guillen this season.
