Greg Schiano and Tampa Bay Off to a Great Start: Carl Nicks Signs a 5-year, $47.5 Million Deal

Just when you thought the Redskins were going to emerge as offseason NFL champs again … the Tampa Bay Bucs swoop in and in 12 hours, land the top WR in free agency (Vincent Jackson) and the top offensive lineman (Carl Nicks).

So much for the Glazers being stingy. The Bucs also have the 5th pick in the 2012 NFL draft next month.

The Bucs won 10 games in 2010 with 2nd-year QB Josh Freeman, and the franchise appeared to be moving in the right direction. But the team regressed significantly in 2011, dropping to 4-12 and essentially quitting on coach Raheem Morris midseason.

Enter Greg Schanio, money to burn, and a high draft pick. The NFC South just got real interesting
