Gerald Wallace Traded From the Blazers to the Nets

According to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets are sending Mehmet Okur, Shawne Williams and protected 1st round pick to Portland for Gerald Wallace.

The big risk is the draft pick. Wojnarowski tweets that it is Top 3 protected … in 2012. In a draft with a few potential franchise players, this could backfire, big-time.

In addition, Wallace, who turns 30 this summer, is going to want more money in his next deal. He has a player option ($11 million) next season.

In Wallace, the Nets get the wing they’ve tried to secure in the draft (Terrence Williams, CDR) and free agency (Travis Outlaw) in recent years.

Next question: Did the Nets go to Deron Williams and say, “who do you want us to go get?” Hopefully, they did. Is the Brooks-Wallace tandem, along with the Humphries/Lopez frontline, enough to get Deron Williams to stick around?

With Dallas no longer having a chance at Dwight Howard this summer – he’s staying in Orlando for one more season – what will Deron do?
