Wichita State was my call for a tournament sleeper. It ran up against what we knew was the tournament danger team in the game of the “second round” so far.

VCU took control early, and took Wichita State out of their game. Big man Garrett Stutz (2-for-13) was taken out of the game by VCU’s pressure and foul trouble, sitting a vast majority.

Still, trailing by 13, Wichita State battled all the way back to take a late lead on a Joe Ragland three pointer. Bradford Burgess answered right back from the corner. Then with less than a minute remaining, Stutz missed a short attempt, and then Darius Theus hit a runner in the lane to put VCU up by 3.

Wichita State’s last possession was disjointed, and resulted in the 7-footer Stutz trying a step back three-pointer that came up short.

These were two really good teams, and again, it is the Rams moving on. Is Indiana (if the Hoosiers win next) ready?
