Bolton's Fabrice Muamba Collapsed During FA Cup Match With Tottenham [UPDATE]

Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed in the 41st minute of the club’s FA Cup match with Tottenham at White Hart Lane with what has been described as a “cardiac incident.” The 23-year-old was stretchered off the field immediately and rushed to the hospital.

Preliminary reports (we stress, preliminary) reports suggest Muamba was not breathing, and was being administered CPR as he was stretchered off the field. He has been described as “fighting for his life.”

The match has been abandoned. We will update as we get more information.

7.07pm For those who did not experience the incident when it happened, there were no players near Muamba when he collapsed. Within 10 or 20 seconds it became apparent that something very serious had happened, and we soon found out that he had stopped breathing. He was treated on the field for almost 10 minutes, with a defibrilator used in an attempt to resuscitate him, before being taken off on a stretcher. Howard Webb took the players off the field, and the game was officially abandoned a few moments later.

Update: Sky Sports News is reporting Fabrice Muamba is in stable condition.
