The letter you see pictured here comes from a friend who unfortunately happens to be the owner of a Mets ticket plan for the upcoming season. Within the skillfully crafted screed come the honest words of “despite what you may have read, the sky is not falling.”
There’s some real beauty to the awareness in that line when you consider this is a franchise that for years, particularly over the last few, spent exhaustive hours in denial, outwardly pretending its image among fans and media alike wasn’t a screeching trainwreck.
But this letter, along with the refreshingly candid Twitter feed of humorous GM Sandy Alderson, are prime examples that the self-awareness of Mets ownership is suddenly blooming like vibrant hydrangeas tended to by the world’s most seasoned gardener. It’s a welcome change, although the idea that most improvements will “come from within” is about as inspiring as an Anthony Young meatball.
