Not that it’ll surprise anyone, but after Bobby Petrino wrecked his motorcycle and emerged bruised and injured from a ditch Sunday evening, his first thought: Get his female companion out of the picture as quickly as possible.
The companion, Jessica Dorrell, flagged down a passing car, which scooped up the pair and took them to her car. Then Petrino, looking for help, called his friend, Captain Lance King.
According to Jessica Dean of KARK-4 in Little Rock, King “travels with” Petrino to games. (The Arkansas News says King “works with the football program.”) Dean says it was King who picked up Petrino after Dorrell was dropped off, and drove him to the hospital.
When an officer showed up at the scene of the accident, he found nobody – presumably just a fallen bike. It is unclear who called 911. Naturally, the State Police would like a word with Mr. King.
State Police Captain Lance King, commander of Troop L in Springdale, has been asked by his supervisor to provide a detailed summary of his involvement with Coach Petrino and other individuals who’ve been identified within the crash investigation.
Presumably, Petrino didn’t reveal to the strangers who gave he and Dorrell a ride what really caused the accident. He probably was more forthcoming when his friend gave him a ride to the hospital.
Talk about a botched cover up. [H/T Kevin]
