Why Do the Chicago Blackhawks Keep Blowing Games in Overtime to a Team Owned By the NHL?

Michael Frolik tied last night’s game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Phoenix Coyotes. It was the second time in the series that Chicago had tied the game late to force overtime. For the third time in the series, Chicago lost 3-2 in overtime. For Chicago, they’re on the brink of another year of underachievement. After winning the Stanley Cup in 2010, the Blackhawks are on the verge of yet another first round exit. And this year they’re doing it to a team without an owner.

Mikkel Boedker scored the game-winner for the second straight game. While the Blackhawks are the 6-seed and the Coyotes are the 3-seed, Phoenix is the higher seed because they won the Pacific. (Division winners earn the top 3 seeds) I mean, Phoenix had a guy thrown out of the game for not getting dressed properly.

Why does Corey Crawford refuse to stop these goals? While Boedker’s game-winner in Game 3 was from a near-impossible angle, Crawford allowed last night’s goal through his legs so easily it evoked comparisons to unusually loose women. Chicago is now one more overtime disappointment away from another wasted season.
