The Blues defended resolutely with 10 men for much of the match after John Terry’s red card. Lionel Messi missed a penalty. Chelsea got a bit of good fortune, but go through deservedly. For Barcelona it was shades of Inter Milan’s epic bus parking at the Camp Nou in 2010.

The man of the match was definitely Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech. He looked back to his pre-head injury form, making absolutely brilliant saves. Any talk of a Barcelona “Plan B” is cliched and absurd. Plan A was creating chances. Petr Cech was thwarting them.

Chelsea’s win, however, comes with a cost. John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles will all miss the final against either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid due to suspension.
