The New York Jets have Trent Richardson #1 on their draft board, according to Sal Paolantonio, in a draft nugget that is a little too public and convenient. Richardson also talks about the Jets contacting him to make sure they have his information in case they trade up. I mean, it seems too obvious here.
Why would the Jets leak their top player or allow it to be leaked and publicly let this out there? Headline grab? I can’t put anything past the Jets.
Is it to create pressure on other teams, to throw people off the scent of the pick that they realistically hope to make at #16? That would be my guess. I think they would have to give up too much to get up to where they would need to be to take Richardson. I’ve seen some references to Chandler Jones start appearing, for example, in the last day in the Philadelphia/New York range in the middle of the draft.
Well, Peter King agrees with me that this one is part of the silly season. King, though, thinks this rumor is just another example of the circle jerking of draft coverage.
