Chris Mortensen Says League Looking At Suspending Pro Bowl, "On Life Support At Best"

In February, the league tried to spice it up with Twitter stations on the sidelines during the game. Then, we saw Aaron Rodgers complain about the lack of effort in the pro bowl, after another particularly effortless-filled game for the second year in a row.

You know you’ve probably jumped the shark when you resort to big machines for Twitter on the sideline. I’ve thought the league should just eliminate the facade by doing away with line play (since linemen don’t want to get hurt anyway) and just have a 7 on 7 tournament with the eight divisions having a team, along with a Battle of the Network Stars-like competition over a weekend after the season ends. (The linemen could still go to Hawaii or wherever it was for their well-earned vacation). Sounds crazy, right? Well, plenty of other stuff that is wackier gets news in the offseason.

The NFL champions used to actually play a college all-star team at one point, also. They sometimes lost, too, but that last happened in 1963. A decade later, and they eliminated that event after the 1976 game when no one cared about it anymore and the professionals were dominating. I don’t think anyone would weep if the actual pro bowl game went away at this point either.
