Carl Beane, Fenway Park’s public address announcer since 2003, died earlier today following a single car accident in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Early reports show that his vehicle crossed lanes, went off the road and hit a tree and a wall. Nearby golfers alerted police of the crash and he was later pronounced dead at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge.
Beane was a Massachusetts native and had been in broadcasting in some form or another since 1972. He was 59-years-old.
The Red Sox return home tomorrow night to host the Indians, so expect a classy tribute to a man who truly seemed to love his job.
