The Dallas Morning News has reported that the two-time defending AL Champion Texas Rangers have signed Roy Oswalt to a deal. What can Oswalt give them? Well, he’s had a hard time staying healthy, as he made 23 starts last year with multiple trips to the DL with back issues while in Philadelphia, and that was the most starts he has made in the last three years.
He became attractive to the Rangers, though, when Neftali Feliz went on the DL. For Oswalt, he gets to join an almost certain playoff team and will have a chance to work himself into a fourth starter role for the postseason roster, while getting a few months off to start the year. If not, he still can operate as a veteran presence out of the bullpen once October rolls around.
