Sports Illustrated recently spoke with Game of Thrones author, George R.R. Martin about football. In addition to writing A Song of Fire and Ice – a.k.a. The Game of Thrones series – Martin is also a huge football fan. In the interview, Martin, a Jets fan, compared Tim Tebow to (*Spoiler Alert!*) the “pious” Sir Bonifer from A Dance With Dragons and Mark Sanchez to Sir Loras Tyrell.
Finally, Martin says that the Lannisters of the NFL are the New England Patriots. He doesn’t say it, but he obviously means that Belichick is Tywin, Brady is Jaime and Welker is Tyrion. As for Cersei… Pete Carroll? It’s so hard to do these without a slide show.
