Ray Rice Signs New Contract Extension Minutes Before Franchise Deadline, No Deal For Dwayne Bowe or Wes Welker

Ray Rice and Matt Forte wanted a new agreement this offseason, and both got it today. Forte got his with plenty of time to spare this morning, while Ray Rice reached an agreement before today’s 4 pm deadline with just minutes remaining. According to Ravens Insider, the deal is 5 year, 40 million, with 25 million guaranteed in the first two seasons. The deal is comparable to Arian Foster, with more guaranteed money.

The wide receivers, though, did not reach agreements. Wes Welker will play this season under the franchise tag; same thing for Dwayne Bowe of the Chiefs. Defensive end Cliff Avril of the Lions was also unable to reach a long term deal, while kicker Josh Scobee finally got the contract he wanted.
