It has been a rough Red Sox season, especially rough for Clay Buchholz who had a hellacious start. The Red Sox starter threw a nine-pitch, three-strikeout half-inning, which is apparently termed an “Immaculate Inning.” It would be the “Imperious Inning” were I czar of quirky baseball terminology. He is the 47th player to do so all-time.

Since June 1st Buchholz has gone at least  7 innings while allowing three runs or fewer in nine of his 11 starts.
