Dodgers Awarded Waiver Claim on Adrian Gonzalez, Now Have 48 Hours to Work Out Trade

What does this mean? Well, he’s not a Dodger yet by any means, as this happens all the time. We don’t know whether Boston had another trade partner in mind if Gonzalez cleared waivers, but now, the Red Sox must either pull Adrian Gonzalez back off waivers over the next 48 hours, or work out trade compensation with the Dodgers. The other option, of course, is that they simply let Gonzalez and his $21 million dollar salary go to the Dodgers uncompensated, which isn’t happening. If the Red Sox do pull Gonzalez back off waivers now that we know a claim has been made, then he and his unused texting minutes will remain in Boston with his good buddy Bobby Valentine for the rest of the year.

The Dodgers have plenty of money and are ready to make a push. They previously put in a waiver claim on Cliff Lee and his large contract, but the Phillies pulled Lee back. Boston will probably do so as well, though with Bobby V in town, things certainly are never boring or predictable with this saga. The only way a trade happens is if Boston gets enough in return AND there was some shift in management directive to get rid of Gonzalez because of the recent drama.
