Nick Saban, the Alabama football coach, to the media Wednesday:
“I hate to be negative with anybody, but when you people start writing stuff about people that we’re playing that doesn’t give them the proper respect, that’s not fair. It’s not fair to them, to their players who work hard to earn it. It’s not fair to our players, who need to respect them. And to make presumptions like you all make, it really really upsets me. You don’t need to write about that. There are so many more good things you can write about happening around here that people would be interested in,” Saban said. “I’d love to see some of you do a little bit of research, and figure it out. It would really do my heart good.”
Hey media, let me tell you how to do your jobs! Be nice to everyone! So what if we’re playing Western Kentucky a week after we looked like we’ll repeat as BCS champs? So what if the spread is 40 points? Western Kentucky returns nine offensive starters from a year ago and it just hung 49 on Austin Peay! Not only did WKU go 7-5 last year – they only trailed LSU 14-7 at halftime in Tiger Stadium last November! – but the Hilltoppers won seven of their last eight, so this team is on a roll. This will not be easy.
