The Washington Nationals have shut down Stephen Strasburg for the season, after he allowed five runs in three innings against the Marlins last night. His final start was expected to be Wednesday against the Mets.
Strasburg will finish with a 15-6 record, a 3.16 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP in 159 1/3 innings. The Nationals currently have a 6.5 game lead in the NL East and the best run differential in baseball.
We didn’t become a Nationals fan three years ago, so obviously we can’t say anything intelligent about this team. We believe, though, that this was absolutely the correct decision. Strasburg will have many more chances to throw in October over the course of his career, for the Yankees or the Dodgers.
