Marcus Lattimore’s injury is bad, but perhaps not as bad as it looked. The South Carolina running back dislocated his right knee and suffered damage to several ligaments, but there were no fractures. It is possible he could take a red shirt and return for the 2014 season. Steve Spurrier said he is “optimistic his football days are ahead of him.”

The three-year rule NFL Draft rule, undoubtedly, is great for college football, though one can’t help but wonder whether Lattimore might not have been better off leaving after his stellar freshman season in 2010.

Today is Lattimore’s 21st birthday. Hopefully, someone buys him a beer or three.
