Jarvis Jones, the highly-touted recruit who started out at USC, suffered a scary neck injury, and is now starring for Georgia, is having a tremendous junior season. After racking up 13.5 sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles last year, he’s wrecking much more havoc this year, despite missing two games: 8.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles.

Jones had arguably the best defensive game of any player in college football this season against Florida last week: 4.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles, including the decisive one in the final minutes at the goal line. Here’s a video breaking down his incredible performance, which appears to cement his high 1st-round draft stock.

Mel Kiper and Todd McShay spent a few minutes on Sportscenter this morning debating whether or not Jones could be the top pick. Linebackers almost never go 1st overall – the last non-passing rushing LB to go very high, Aaron Curry, went 4th to Seattle in 2009, got $34 million guaranteed, and then was traded to Oakland last year – but Jones appears to be a Top 10 lock, which is where we’ve had him since May.
