Saturday Night Football: Stanford at Oregon

Oregon derailed a Stanford title run at the Farm last year. Stanford will try to do the same to Oregon this year. The real debate, though, may be whether Oregon can cover.

Arguments for Oregon: Oregon dropped 105 points on Stanford the past two seasons. The gap between the two has widened. Stanford can’t match up with Oregon’s speed on defense. They got torched by a poor man’s Oregon, Arizona, earlier this year. The Ducks have a solid defense and create turnovers. Stanford’s offense has been pedestrian at best.

Arguments for Stanford: Rushing defense. Stanford leads the nation, allowing just 2.02 yards per carry. The Cardinal have allowed 50 yards rushing in their last four games. Combined. This is due to a physical defensive front and underrated linebackers. They also have Stepfan Taylor and their running game, facing a decimated Oregon front line.

Required Reading: Chip Kelly’s offense has a lot of old school in it. This guy thinks Kelly is not ready for the NFL. Hasn’t quite mastered the art of meaningless field goals?
