Zack Greinke Signs With the Dodgers for Six Years, $147 Million; Dodgers Surpass Yankees in Spending

Zack Greinke is now the highest paid pitcher in baseball, surpassing C.C. Sabathia by agreeing to a 6 year, $147 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last night, according to Ken Rosenthal. Greinke was traded to the Los Angeles Angels last year, and will now remain in L.A. but change his colors. Since the Dodgers franchise was sold to the Guggenheim ownership group, the Dodgers have been aggressively taking on salary, including the deal that brought Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to Los Angeles last season.

They have been so aggressive, in fact, that the team has now surpassed the New York Yankees for largest payroll in baseball, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. It will be the first time since 1998 that the Yankees will not be the kings of baseball spending.
