Barcelona’s Lionel Messi won his record fourth-straight Ballon d’Or, the FIFA award for the world’s best soccer player. There was some debate, given his lack of silverware for club and country, though it is rather hard to talk down 91 goals in 69 appearances during 2012. His achievement was overshadowed by his polka-dot tuxedo jacket, which was dazzling.
