Marquette Beat Butler 74-72, Withstood Frantic Last Few Seconds

Butler did not do it, but they came close. The Bulldogs looked dispatched after Rotnei Clarke air-balled a three and Davante Gardner hit two free throws to put Marquette up 74-70 with four seconds left. A goaltend and a botched inbounds pass, however, gave Butler one last shot at a buzzer beater.

Center Andrew Smith heaving an off-balance three was probably not the shot they drew up during the timeout. We’re guessing Brad Stevens was doing another one of these, at least internally. Marquette advances to the Sweet 16.
