Andy Katz of ESPN dropped a bomb just as the Sweet 16 was beginning: Butler coach Brad Stevens and UCLA were in “contract negotiations.”
That’s significant, because Stevens has been coveted by everyone for a couple years now, and to my recollection, has never reached the contract negotiations stage.
But then, about 15 minutes after the story was online, the contract portion was pulled. Below is a screen grab with the timestamp.
[Note: Katz's story also referenced the flight information we posted about this morning - well, sort of.]
This sort of post-publication editing happens all the time, but in a story of this significance, one wonders – did UCLA or Stevens call in to Katz and say that wasn’t true, and to pull it?
