Sidney Crosby took a puck to the mouth during Pittsburgh’s 2-0 win against the Islanders. Of course Sidney Crosby was hit in the face with a puck the same week Alex Ovechkin was hit in the face with a puck. Unfortunately for Crosby and the Penguins, it appears that Crosby’s injury is much more severe. While Ovi suffered a cut on his chin and required some stitches, Crosby lost teeth and had to undergo oral surgery.

This is the second time this season that Crosby has left a game after being hit in the face with a puck. Other than that, Crosby has been healthy (by hockey player standards) this season, appearing in all 36 of the Penguins’ games. It was just a year ago when we were not entirely certain Crosby would continue playing hockey.
