Tom Kostopoulos was just doing the right thing. Matt Martin of the Islanders had hit New Jersey’s Stephen Gionta when he wasn’t totally looking. Kostopoulos stepped in to stick up for his teammate. For his trouble, Kostopoulos got knocked out. It was so bad that as Martin got up off the ice, he called for the trainers. It was the second time this season that we saw what looked like a clean knockout in the NHL. The Islanders won, 3-1.
