Mike Rice Fired? Report Says He is Gone; Another Says He is Meeting with Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti Right Now [UPDATE: Mike Rice Fired.]

Mike Rice, the Rutgers basketball coach who was videotaped kicking and throwing basketballs at his players heads last season, is either getting fired right now, or will be getting fired shortly according to multiple reports. The Star Ledger reports Rice – who was only suspended for three games last Fall for his behavior – has been called into a meeting with Athletic Direct Tim Pernetti. Other reports – ESPN, the Bergen Record – claim Rice will be fired.

[UPDATE: Mike Rice has been fired, the school announced.]

After Rice is jettisoned, it’ll only be a matter of time before Pernetti is fighting for his job because he’s the one (probably not the only one) who viewed the video and levied the 3-game suspension on Rice. After Pernetti, Rutgers president Robert Barchi can start worrying about his future at the University.
