"“I sincerely apologize for what I said in our game tonight. Although I said it in the heat of the moment, that language has no place in our game. That is not my character, but there is still no excuse for saying what I said. I made a mistake and I accept full responsibility for my actions.”"

Seattle defender Marc Burch was suspended three matches for a similar incident, coincidentally involving Johnson, last fall. We’d imagine Gordon will get at least four combined with the sending off. It’s language that can’t be tolerated when caught, even if it emerged from some nether region of the subconscious mid-competition. In Burch’s case, it did not reflect his true views on the matter.
