We’ve gone about as close to a draft without knowing who the team on the clock was going to select for a while. If some reports in the two hours prior to the draft are to be believed, the Chiefs have settled on Eric Fisher over Luke Joeckel among the left tackle prospects. According to Charean Williams, “Joeckel apparently has been told by KC that Fisher is their pick.” Pro Football Talk also reported that a source with knowledge of the team’s plans has said that they will take Fisher.
As with anything, we’ll wait to see if this is how it plays out, because we haven’t gotten any kind of official announcement from the team. Kansas City could be letting this info finally leak out in hopes that it will stir a trade from somebody. If it is Fisher, he will be just the second player to finish his career with Central Michigan to be drafted in the first round–Joe Staley was the 28th overall pick in 2007. (J.J. Watt also attended Central Michigan for a year before transferring to Wisconsin).
