Russell Westbrook is done for the season. When it was announced yesterday that Westbrook would require surgery to repair a meniscus tear, there was “no timetable.” Today Westbrook underwent surgery and it was announced that he would not return for the playoffs.
Doctors repaired, as opposed to remove, Westbrook’s meniscus, which requires a longer recovery time but also is a better long-term solution.

Westbrook and the Thunder have done the smart thing to think long term. While they have basically lost a season in the prime of Westbrook and Durant’s careers, with a completely recovered Westbrook – who hadn’t missed a single game in 5 seasons – the Thunder should have a few more shots at a title.
