Ovi on refs: “Not saying there was a phone call, but they wanted Game 7. For ratings. You know, lockout, escrow, league must make profit”

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals lost Game 7 to the New York Rangers, 5-0. Ovi had 0 points and 1 shot on goal during the deciding game. Ovechkin registered just 1 goal and 1 assist in the series and they came in Games 1 and 2. Plus, this gif. Only 1 win and 1 point separated the 3-seed Caps and the 6-seed Rangers in the regular season. To avoid their fate in Game 7, all the Capitals had to do was beat Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers in any of the three one-goal games they dropped in the series.
Instead, Ovechkin, one of the of the league’s preeminent stars is left grasping for conspiracy theories as the Capitals exit the Stanley Cup playoffs early again. In 6 straight seasons the Capitals have not advanced past the second round despite either taking first or second in their division.
