"“We are implementing changes across the company to enhance our continued growth while smartly managing costs. While difficult, we are confident that it will make us more competitive, innovative and productive.”"

How will this impact the ESPN you consume? It probably won’t – at least not on the surface. Changes are happening all over ESPN – as I reported last month, Charissa Thompson is Fox Sports-bound – and on the radio side, the company recently parted ways with Mike Hill, a spokesperson confirmed to me this morning. The layoffs come at a time when the overall economy is rebounding, and Disney stock is on the uptick.

How will this impact the future contracts of Bob Knight and Jay Williams? That remains undetermined. Will the layoffs have any impact on the potential hiring of Keith Olbermann? That seems unlikely, too.
