The Giants beat the Rockies 6-5 in 10 innings Saturday afternoon in San Francisco, with Angel Pagan ending the game with the rare inside-the-park walk-off home run. Batting against Colorado closer Rafael Betancourt with a runner on base, Pagan drilled a shot to the right-centerfield at AT&T Park — the park’s so-called “triple’s alley.” The ball kicked off the wall and took a long hop, taking it out of the reach of the Rockies outfielders allowing, which Pagan to sprint around the bases and slide into home plate head-first ahead of the throw to end the game.
According to Baseball-Reference there have been 14 previous inside the park walk-off home runs prior to Saturday. Pagan’s was the first since Rey Sanchez’s on June 11, 2004.
