German Keeper Marc-André ter Stegen Scored Maybe the Worst Own Goal Ever vs. the United States [Video]
By Mike Cardillo
Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is never going to live this totally botched back-pass from teammate Benedikt Höwedes down during Sunday’s friendly with the United States at RFK Stadium. Moments after Jozy Altidore put the United States ahead 1-0 in a stunning volley it was the the German backline’s turn to register a comically inept own goal. The Germans seemed completely stunned when American midfielder Jermaine Jones pressured the short goal kick and the result was a mildly shocking 2-0 lead for the U.S. National Team.
The question, going forward, what’s the best music to re-edit this clip with? a) sad trombone or b) Benny Hill music?
Going into halftime, the Germans appear to be jobbing harder than Alex Wright vs. Hulk Hogan on a WCW Monday Night Nitro circa 1995.
So far, not a bad way to celebrate 100 years of U.S. Soccer.
