Miguel Olivo Walked Out on the Marlins Because They Refused to Release Him

Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo has been frustrated with his lack if playing time, plus it’s probably not much fun being a Marlin anyway, so he asked the embattled team to be released. Said release was not granted and Olivo walked out on the team, perhaps thinking Marlins brass would bend and give him what he wanted. It turned out to be a foolish move, as Olivo has been placed on the restricted list.

“I told them I wanted to be released and they wouldn’t give it to me,” said Olivo. “I don’t understand why they don’t release me. I told them I wanted to be released because I have 30 days of not playing. I need to play … If I’m not doing nothing, I don’t understand why they keep me doing nothing.”

The Marlins are beyond terrible and Olivo is a 34 year old catcher who adds nothing, so my only guess is that the hopeless franchise is keeping him solely out of sheer boredom for shits and giggles. It’s like playing a cruel game of keep away from a helpess toddler.
