Vladimir Putin Denies Stealing Robert Kraft's Super Bowl Ring, Calls Claim "Weird"

Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed on Friday night that the Super Bowl ring he gave Vladimir Putin in 2005 was not a gift, and was in fact stolen by the Russian. The tale of the gift apparently came as a result from pressure from the White House “in the best interest of US-Soviet relations.” Of course. Well, a spokesman for Putin has refuted Kraft’s claim.

“What Mr. Kraft is saying now is weird,” Dmitry Peskov told CNN. “I was standing 20 centimeters away from him and Mr. Putin and saw and heard how Mr. Kraft gave this ring as a gift.”

What an opening line to an official statement. The gift — stolen ring? — remains in the Kremlin library. If Putin really did what Kraft said he did, and literally just walked away after being handed the ring, I can’t help but be amused by the brash move.
