Jonathan Stewart Surprised to Find the Sporting News Incorrectly Listed Him on Injury Report With Cancer

Jonathan Stewart

jonathan-stewart-cancer-sporting-newsJonathan Stewart, a running back on the Carolina Panthers, received a strange tweet from a fan over the weekend. As you can see in that link, the fan told Stewart he was praying for him. The fan attached a screen grab from the Sporting News mobile site that listed Stewart on the injury report with “Cancer.”  Stewart retweeted, simply adding, “Lies.”

Somebody at SN is going to get a stern talking to. They may even be “out indefinitely.” Stewart on the other hand, should be fine. He is recovering from ankle surgery in January.

The Sporting News has since scrubbed the error from the website and issued a correction.

Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart was listed in error on the Sporting News injury feed. All instances of the error have been removed from the website, and we are working to understand why Stewart was improperly listed in the report.

Update: According to multiple SN staffers, it was a computer error and not the mistake of an employee.
