Amber Freeman, USA Softball Player, Hurt Her Ankle On a Home Run, Was Helped Around the Bases by Opponents

amber-freeman-puerto-rico-home-runAmber Freeman is currently playing for Team USA in the¬†World Cup of Softball. On Sunday, against Puerto Rico, Freeman hit two home runs in Team USA’s 10-3 win over Puerto Rico. On her second homer, Freeman twisted her ankle awkwardly running around first base. That’s when Puerto Rico’s shortstop, Galis Lozada and third baseman, Dayanira Diaz, stepped in and helped Freeman continue to get around the bases.

This conjures memories of the Western Oregon – Central Washington college softball game from a few years back that became a poster for sportsmanship. (See video below.)

Freeman, a catcher, just finished her sophomore season at Arizona State. In May, she was named the PAC-12 Softball Player of the Year and throughout he season she kept a diary for ESPNW.
