Jonny Gomes completed an unassisted double play in Red Sox 5-4 win over the Mariners in 15 innings Wednesday night. Not a big deal, right? Well, Gomes pulled this off from left field — an oddity and rarity all rolled up into one play.

Gomes caught a Michael Saunders sinking liner. The slow-footed Raul Ibañez was running on the play from second and Gomes was easily able to beat him back to the bag. In fact, it didn’t even look like Ibañez attempted to go back to second.

That’s baseball.
