Clint Dempsey Poses For Pictures in Airports, MLS Fans Speculate

Dempsey posed for a picture with a fan at SFO, wearing the same outfit he wore in Heathrow hours earlier. He was not on the fan’s connecting flight to Seattle.
Tottenham play a friendly with AS Monaco on Aug. 3. The next USMNT match, on Aug. 14, is in Sarajevo. Let’s hope he did not go to Vail for a consult with Dr. Steadman.
Either Dempsey is back stateside for personal reasons, or there is significant smoke.
The American captain moved to Spurs for around $10 million last summer at peak value. A number less than that could put him in play for MLS, theoretically. Matching Dempsey’s contract, two years and nearly $15 million left, would make him the highest paid player in MLS.
Turning 31 in March, perhaps a fat DP contract and stable playing time ahead of the World Cup may not sound so bad. Though joining Roberto Martinez’ experiment in Merseyside would have a bit more caché.
