Magazine cover stories are a quaint concept in the 24-hour sports media cycle. Wright Thompson got his Manziel piece out online for ESPN. By the time it hit newsstands it was already pre-empted by ESPN’s own reporting about autograph signings.
The same goes for the Sept. issue of Texas Monthly, which went to press in the “will Manziel’s play be affected?” era rather than the “will Manziel play?” era.
It’s all skeevy autograph barons and lawyers with cowboy hats now, bro. Courtside seats and mysterious Manning camp absences are sooo late July.
