Ricky Williams Used to Smoke Marijuana Before Games, Channing Crowder Says

Channing Crowder, the former Miami Dolphins linebacker, is now working as a radio host on WQAM in Miami. Wednesday Crowder dropped this bombshell: Ricky Williams used to get high before games. No really, shocking information. Hope you were sitting down when you read it.

Pro Football Talk pulled this nugget from Crowder’s revelations about his former temmate:

“Remember that Buffalo game, the 200-yard game?” Crowder said. “Smoked the night before. Talk to Ricky. He was doing it, that’s what he did. Ricky has social anxiety and he smoked weed. Ricky’s marijuana didn’t affect the team until he got caught smoking. . . Him smoking weed, sitting at his house smoking weed, didn’t affect anybody but Ricky. He got high and then he sobered up and then he went to practice the next day.”

Williams ran for 228 yards against the Bills in a game from December 2002. Miami lost the game 38-21. Crowder’s name doesn’t appear in the box score, probably since he didn’t join the Dolphins until 2005.

Williams, who failed several drug tests during his NFL career, denied Crowder’s claims on Bonnie Bernstein’s “The Download” program on Campus Insiders.
