Devin Gardner Should Have Taken a Safety, But Instead Threw an Interception in the End Zone
By Jason McIntyre
Devin Gardner, trying to nurse a 14-point 4th quarter lead, made a classic mistake: The Michigan QB ran back into his end zone and instead of taking a safety, he tried to throw it away … only to have Notre Dame defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt – who weighs 325 pounds – make a diving interception for a TD.
Michigan, which led 34-20 and had just stopped the Irish on 4th down in the red zone, just opened the door for Notre Dame to rally. There are 12 minutes left, and finally, it took this bizarre play for people to stop talking about Eminem and Brent Musburger.
